The answer... without the scenic route

Use YouTube Studio channel permissions rather than shared passwords. A Viewer role is designed for read-only access, while Viewer (limited) excludes revenue data. Role capabilities and interface details can change, so the owner should confirm the current permission before sending an invitation.

Ask for controlled access

Use YouTube Studio channel permissions rather than shared passwords. A Viewer role is designed for read-only access, while Viewer (limited) excludes revenue data. Role capabilities and interface details can change, so the owner should confirm the current permission before sending an invitation.

Controlled access helps you inspect analytics directly. It does not grant ownership and should not be confused with the later Brand Account transfer process.

Build an evidence stack

No single screen proves the business. Reconcile:

  • YouTube Analytics revenue with AdSense or payment records
  • Upload history with contractor invoices
  • Stated expenses with bank or accounting evidence
  • Content rights with licenses and agreements
  • Strike and restriction status with Studio records
  • Seller ownership with identity and contractual representations

Document the date range and source of every material figure.

Review risk before upside

Check ownership, active strikes, monetization status, rights, and revenue concentration before brainstorming growth. If a deal fails a fundamental risk test, stop spending time imagining better thumbnails.

Where this gets expensive

Backend access makes fraud harder, not impossible. Data can be misunderstood, expenses can sit elsewhere, and rights problems may not appear in Analytics.

Keep these three things

The short version

  • Use read-only permissions and never request password sharing.
  • Reconcile analytics with financial and legal evidence.
  • Investigate deal-ending risks before upside.
