The answer... without the scenic route

The Terms restrict selling parts of the Service or Content except as expressly authorized by the Service or with prior written permission. Official help pages separately explain technical role and association changes. Do not collapse those different documents into “YouTube allows channel sales.”

Read the current rules before writing the transfer plan

The Terms restrict selling parts of the Service or Content except as expressly authorized by the Service or with prior written permission. Official help pages separately explain technical role and association changes. Do not collapse those different documents into “YouTube allows channel sales.”

Complete documents and verify funded escrow first

Before changing roles or delivering control:

  1. Confirm the final buyer identity and authority.
  2. Sign the transaction documents appropriate to the deal.
  3. Define every included and excluded asset.
  4. Define diligence, acceptance, release, failure, and dispute conditions.
  5. Verify the escrow provider and instructions through known official channels.
  6. Confirm cleared funds are actually held under the agreed escrow terms.

An email saying “funded” is not enough when you can verify the status directly with the provider.

Deliver diligence assets according to the schedule

The buyer may review final financials, analytics, content rights, policy status, team arrangements, and operating files. Keep a dated delivery record.

Do not transfer credentials. Do not expose unrelated Google services inside a personal account. If a required asset cannot validly transfer, disclose that before closing and update the agreement.

The seller and buyer should also confirm whether the channel uses Brand Account roles, channel permissions, or another setup. These systems are not interchangeable. Official guidance says a channel using permissions may need a permissions change before a Brand Account role transfer can occur.

Handle the seven-day owner period correctly

Under the current Brand Account guidance, a person generally needs to be an owner for seven days before becoming the primary owner. Adding someone only as a manager does not satisfy an owner waiting period.

A careful sequence may look like this, if it fits the current account state and transaction documents:

  1. Add the buyer's verified Google Account as a Brand Account owner through the current official interface.
  2. Confirm the correct account received and accepted the role.
  3. Wait the required seven days while completing agreed diligence and transition tasks.
  4. After eligibility appears, change the buyer to primary owner according to the closing conditions.
  5. Keep or remove the seller's role only as the agreement and least-privilege transition plan require.

Do not move a channel between Brand Accounts casually. Google's own guidance warns that a mistaken move can replace or delete the wrong channel or content. If the setup is unclear, stop and get appropriate technical help.

Keep AdSense for YouTube separate

The seller's AdSense account ownership does not transfer to the buyer. That account can contain the seller's payee, tax, payment, and other channel information.

The buyer needs their own eligible AdSense for YouTube arrangement and may change the channel's linked association under the current rules. Google's current guidance says association changes are generally limited to once every 32 days, but verify the official page before building a closing timeline around that period.

Document:

  • Which revenue belongs to the seller before the economic closing time.
  • Which revenue belongs to the buyer after it.
  • How timing differences or final payments will be reconciled.
  • Who is responsible for changing the channel association and confirming it.

Do not describe this as “transferring AdSense.”

Don't skip this bit

Primary ownership can change while a domain, sponsor contract, licensed music, source files, contractor relationship, or payment reconciliation remains incomplete. Escrow should release according to the complete written acceptance conditions, not one technical click unless the parties deliberately agreed otherwise.

This is policy-sensitive and legal-adjacent material. Recheck the current official guidance and get qualified transaction advice before using it in a real deal.

Where the ledger goes next

After the agreed assets and control are delivered, payment still follows the escrow instructions. Next, define acceptance evidence, authorize release carefully, and reconcile the payout before calling the deal complete.

Continue to Release Escrow Funds Without Guessing.

Keep these three things

The short version

  • Technical Brand Account ownership tools do not constitute YouTube approval of a sale.
  • A new primary owner generally must first hold an owner role for seven days. Manager status is not the same.
  • AdSense account ownership does not transfer. Plan a buyer-owned association and revenue cutoff separately.
