Some marketplace links are affiliate links. If you use one, ChannelFlips may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. That never changes the standard we use to evaluate a platform.
The answer... without the scenic route
The goal is not a flawless graph. It is an honest explanation that survives a buyer opening the underlying analytics.
Inside this guide 9 parts
Check performance and concentration
- [ ] Export or record the last 12 completed months of views, watch time, estimated revenue, and uploads.
- [ ] Compare the 6, 9, and 12-month trends.
- [ ] Calculate the share of views and revenue from the top one, three, and five videos.
- [ ] Explain any spike, decline, long publishing gap, or major RPM change.
- [ ] Show whether recent uploads reproduce the channel's strongest topics or formats.
- [ ] Separate recurring performance from one-time sponsors, viral events, or seasonal peaks.
The goal is not a flawless graph. It is an honest explanation that survives a buyer opening the underlying analytics.
Check profit and marketplace fit
- [ ] Reconcile monthly AdSense for YouTube revenue to the channel records.
- [ ] List sponsorship, affiliate, product, membership, and other income separately.
- [ ] Include editor, thumbnail, research, voice, music, stock, software, contractor, and management costs.
- [ ] Add a reasonable cost for owner work that the buyer would need to replace.
- [ ] Identify one-time costs and proposed add-backs with documentation.
- [ ] Calculate TTM net profit and show a monthly schedule, not just one total.
- [ ] Check the current eligibility, excluded niches, fees, and process for any marketplace you are considering.
Affiliate disclosure: The next link is an affiliate link. If you use it, Roman may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That doesn't change the readiness checks or the recommendation to compare alternatives.
For a larger, documented asset, Empire Flippers may be one route worth comparing. Check Empire Flippers' current seller criteria (opens in a new tab) before planning around it. Eligibility and terms can change.
Check the operating package
- [ ] Write the content workflow from idea through publishing and review.
- [ ] Record the actual posting cadence and the cost per finished video.
- [ ] List team roles, rates, contact method, availability, and whether each person agrees to an introduction.
- [ ] Organize research, scripts, final videos, thumbnails, channel art, and other included assets.
- [ ] Identify which software accounts transfer, which require a new buyer account, and which should only be documented.
- [ ] Remove passwords, personal records, payment details, and unrelated files from buyer-facing folders.
An SOP should teach the process. It should not expose credentials.
Check rights, policy, and obligations
- [ ] Inventory ownership or licenses for video, music, footage, voice, thumbnail, logo, and brand assets.
- [ ] Organize contractor agreements and IP assignments where they exist.
- [ ] List active sponsor deliverables, affiliate obligations, claims, strikes, warnings, and disputes.
- [ ] Confirm whether any cloned or synthetic voice use is supported by appropriate rights and consent.
- [ ] Note any content the buyer may need to replace, remove, or relicense.
- [ ] Redact viewer, contractor, customer, and personal information that diligence doesn't require.
If the rights chain is unclear, pause and get qualified help. A tidy folder cannot fix missing ownership.
Check the proposed handoff
- [ ] Identify whether the channel is connected to a Brand Account and whether channel permissions affect the transfer workflow.
- [ ] Read the current YouTube Terms and official ownership-role guidance.
- [ ] Plan the role change and any seven-day owner waiting period without sharing a Google password.
- [ ] Document which assets transfer at each closing step and what evidence triggers escrow release.
- [ ] Make clear that the seller's AdSense account ownership does not transfer. The buyer needs their own eligible AdSense for YouTube arrangement.
- [ ] Have the transaction documents and tax treatment reviewed by appropriately qualified professionals for the relevant parties and jurisdiction.
Technical ownership tools are not YouTube's approval of a channel sale. Treat permission, contract, account roles, payments, and asset delivery as separate questions.
Where this gets expensive
This checklist can reduce ambiguity. It cannot guarantee marketplace acceptance, buyer interest, a price, or a completed transfer. Missing evidence may lower the value or stop the deal. New information can also surface during diligence.
Use the checklist to find the work while you still have time to do it.
Keep going from here
With readiness assessed, move into sale preparation. Section 2 shows how to turn scattered records into a buyer-friendly data room, a defensible P&L, and an asking range.
Keep these three things
The short version
- Every readiness claim needs evidence a buyer can inspect.
- Package operations and rights without exposing credentials or unnecessary private data.
- Verify current platform, marketplace, legal, tax, and AdSense requirements before closing.
