The answer... without the scenic route

Google explains that a YouTube channel linked to a Brand Account can have multiple managers through their own Google Accounts. A channel not set up for transferable ownership may require configuration changes before closing.

Inside this guide 7 parts

Confirm the account structure

Google explains that a YouTube channel linked to a Brand Account can have multiple managers through their own Google Accounts. A channel not set up for transferable ownership may require configuration changes before closing.

The seller should verify the current Brand Account and YouTube Studio permissions state. Google notes that channel permissions may need to be opted out of for an ownership transfer. Do not improvise or share passwords.

Understand the seven-day rule

Google's current guidance says a Brand Account owner must have held the owner role for at least seven days before being made primary owner. There is one primary owner.

The general flow is:

  1. Seller invites the buyer's secured Google Account as an owner through the supported Brand Account process.
  2. Buyer accepts and records the acceptance time.
  3. The parties wait at least seven days while completing contract-defined inspection.
  4. The authorized owner assigns the buyer as primary owner.
  5. The buyer verifies control and updates access according to the agreement.

Review Google's current Brand Account owner guidance (opens in a new tab) immediately before closing.

Inspect without creating new risk

During the wait, recheck analytics, restrictions, included assets, and seller statements. Limit operational changes until the agreement says control has passed. Do not delete users or assets prematurely.

After primary ownership, review security, recovery methods, authorized users, connected services, API access, contractor access, and business continuity before authorizing escrow release.

The honest caveat

The seven-day period does not eliminate risk and does not itself give a buyer the right to cancel. Rights come from the agreement and escrow instructions.

Your next move

After ownership changes, link the buyer's own AdSense for YouTube account instead of attempting to transfer the seller's payment account.

Keep these three things

The short version

  • Brand Account ownership is different from ordinary Studio permissions.
  • A new owner generally waits at least seven days before becoming primary owner.
  • Reconfirm Google's current steps at the time of transfer.
