Inside this guide 8 parts

Check account-level status first

Review the Studio dashboard and relevant policy or Earn areas for active copyright strikes, Community Guidelines actions, YouTube Partner Program status, and other restrictions. Compare what you see with YouTube's current copyright strike guidance (opens in a new tab), channel monetization policies (opens in a new tab), and advertiser-friendly content guidelines (opens in a new tab). Save dated evidence with the seller's permission.

An active strike deserves serious scrutiny. Roman's personal rule is to pass. If you consider proceeding, involve qualified legal and platform experts and price the possibility of further enforcement.

Inspect video-level restrictions

In Content, review monetization and restriction status across at least the last 6 to 12 months and the highest-revenue archive. Interface colors and labels can change, so open the detail for each material item.

Classify videos as fully monetized, limited, ineligible, claimed, blocked, or under review based on the current detail. Record the reason and appeal outcome.

Quantify the pattern

Calculate the share of uploads and revenue affected. A few limited-ad decisions may have little economic impact. A recurring pattern in the channel's core topics may mean future content cannot match historical revenue.

Compare upload date, topic, language, and format with each decision. Ask whether the seller changed editorial standards after a problem appeared.

Verify the forward plan

Review YouTube's current channel monetization policies (opens in a new tab) and advertiser-friendly content guidelines (opens in a new tab). Build a prepublication review for sensitive topics, language, imagery, originality, and rights. Do not assume an appeal will fix every decision.

Where this gets expensive

A green status today is not a promise of future monetization. YouTube can review channels and videos again, and policy interpretation may change.

Keep these three things

The short version

  • Check account status before analyzing growth.
  • Quantify restrictions by upload count and revenue impact.
  • Underwrite the content strategy that will continue, not only the clean archive.
